Job Title: Junior Estimator / I.T. Support Staff
Location: Charleston Metro, Tri-County Region (Dorchester, Berkeley, Charleston Counties)
Job Description:
This is a full-time position as a Junior Estimator that will assist in developing comprehensive cost estimates for various site construction projects. This position will also incorporate some basic I.T. support functions, mainly assisting field and office staff with computer, mobile phone and tablet issues to solve common problems and coordination with our outside I.T. support contractor to aid in solving more complex issues as they arise. O.L. Thompson Construction Co., Inc. is a large scale civil sitework General Contractor serving the Charleston Tri-County area. We are currently looking for a candidate to join our team who is detail-oriented, quality-focused, and who will represent our company in a positive and professional manner.

Responsibilities:
- Review civil plans, specifications, and other project documents to provide accurate quantity calculations for grading, paving, storm drainage and utility projects including roadway and parking lot construction.
- Maintain project files and communicate with general contractors/owners, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors throughout bid process.
- Building Earthwork models of projects in AGTEK modeling software.
- Working in Bid2Win Estimating Software to model Project estimates.
- Compile RFI inquiries and project addenda and advise the estimating team on any changes to project documents.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed for project requirements.
- Work with Project Managers on Project turnover and Pre-Construction meetings to review estimates and scope to kickoff new Projects.
- Assist with troubleshooting and coordinating resolutions for common I.T. issues on windows-based computer systems, office printers, android based mobile phones and tablets.
General Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older to work in the field. Must be 21 years or older to operate equipment or be a company driver.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather and conditions which may include, rain, heat, cold, mud, dirt, dust, humidity, loud environments, and extreme temperatures. Weather may alter your work schedule.
- Must bring and wear personal protective gear daily as specified site by site which may include hard hat, glasses, safety vest, ear plugs which will be provided by the company.
- You must provide and wear our own long pants, work rated boot and at least a 4-inch sleeve or longer.
- Must be able to reliably get to and from the jobsites on time every day in the tri-county area.
- Must be able to following verbal and written instructions in English.
- Must be able to work some evenings and weekends and overtime as needed or when required.
- Must be able to perform repetitive heavy manual labor which may include but not limited to standing for long periods of time, sitting for long periods of time, climbing, stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling, lifting heavy items repeatedly.
- Must be safety conscious and aware of your surroundings.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and ongoing quarterly testing.
- Some positions require background checks and clean driving records (as specified).
- All new hires will be on a 90-day probation.
Education:
Post-secondary education preferred, whether it be college or a technical school.
Experience:
- Civil Construction or Project Management education/experience preferred
- MS Office, Excel, AutoCAD, Bid2Win, or AGTEK experience preferred.
- Windows based operating systems, Android mobile device platforms.
Typical Hours: hours may vary but typical office hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm
